hers another photo of my pinkfoot goliath in the UK, my 'spider sitter' took this whilst it devoured 2 locusts (maybe not the best food as I hear occasional problems but i never had problems). Not the best photo but you get the idea of her size. Close to 10 inches.

Cool T

That is a nice specimen...I have two females that size, and I love them to pieces. Mine prefer adult mice though, they (for some reason) do not want crickets.

pinkfoot

thanks for the compliment, my spider appreciates flattery :)

Hopefully I will be bringing this animal into the USA sometime this year, i have to get all the paperwork ready first, i'll be rather sad if the expense becomes prohibitive (eg if it had to go as cargo and not as a carry on). I bought one in 1996 at a UK insect show as second moult for 28 UK pounds, around 18 months later I found this one in a local petstore!! around the same size as my own, im guessing they are siblings as I think there was only one batch available at that time. I rescued her for around 35 UK pounds and here she is 10 years on. She moulted around 2 months ago.

Wow she looks lovely :clap:

My goliath is about the 10' mark she looks exactly like that but not as brown brown..
Ive never had a T.apophsys but I heard they are more leggy than goliaths and are also believed by some to be the largest type of spider.

Come check out my Goliath here.

more pics

hi all, thanks for the compliments, I include some more photos, my spider sitter agrees they are not the best pictures but she isnt really a fan of 10 inch spiders!! Hence they are taken behing the glass. You'll notice the previous 2 pictures are not actually mine, they are helmis T.apophysis, very nice though but probably not as large as mine......yet:}

AS for locusts, they are bought through the hobby, they are not found wild in the UK. they are schistocerca (spelling??) and close to 3 inches from nose to wingtip.

apophysis continued

Ive not seen my apophysis since I left the UK last year, since then shes moulted, as soon as I visit i will measure the moult and estimate her size. I guess the carapace is around 35mm long which is considerably smaller than a 10 year old blondi which seem to get to around 40mm. Once again, sorry the pics are a little blurred. As I said earlier I hope to get her into the USA and into a nice new tank.

crimsonpanthers blondi

very nice photos, nothing like a recently moulted blondi, they just look cool I cant explain it, possibly my favourite tarantula. Many people say 'big and brown'...no chance, its the shape combined with the rich velvet and the fact that you can actually see all the segments as they are not very fuzzy if you see what i mean. How old is that blondi?

new apophysis picture

i recently visited the Uk and managed a few shots of my T.apophysis. I measured the last moult at 9.25 inches with a carapace at 35mm, she is noticably larger now so i guess 37mm carapace and close to 10 inch across the legs.
