My C. crawshayi surprised me with a sac this morning! And the best part about it is that it is suspended, I did not know this species did this. Here are some pics for proof. Sorry about the quality, her burrow is very deep and there was a lot of silk!

Pull date will be on 4/4/08, if I can get to it that is!

I think I'm going to leave it with her until they hatch. Obviously I've done pretty good on humidity and temp, so I"ll throw some roaches in there every now and then, keep misting the tank daily, and keep the temp around 80-85.

Here are some pics I just took to help you better see thee sac. It just amazes me how she did it!

Can you provide more details? Did you breed this spider or was it WC female that produced a sac? (if Wc did i molt in your care?) Tell us more about how you have it set up, Moisture levels ect....

Good luck, Tom

I'm typing up a breeding report as we speak. She has been in my care for close to 10 years, fully CB.

All RIGHT! Way to go, hope we can get more cb babies here. Too bad you couldnt send your boy on his merry way to another female, but oh well, food for the babies.

Another quick update! The sac is still hanging, but here is something I found rather interesting. she rotates the sac by hanging from the ceiling, grabbing it with her front legs, and literally bounces it up and down. Here are some recent pics from a minute ago while feeding:
Here she is cleaning up a bit

Now "rotaing"

Congrats Austin :)

Within that subfamily, Monocentropus also makes a "hammock" style eggsac. There very well could be other genera in that subfamily (which aren't in the hobby) that do as well, I don't know. The subfamilies Thrigmopoeinae and Stromatopelminae also construct eggsacs of this type.

It's neat seeing her move it around from underneath the sac... thanks for the pic :)

Great pics Austin, every one has their own style. I think that's really neat, the way she "bounces" the sac around.

Its been exactly 10 days since she first laid them. The sac is still hanging and she is still tending to it. I've been thinking about pulling it pretty soon however. Looking on the side of her tank, I knowticed little mite looking things on the glass, and what looked like to by larvae. I'm thinking about pulling it tonight, just because I don't want those things to get to the sac. What would you all do? :(

Here is an update as of 4/4/08. It has been exactly 15 days since she laid these. There is developement going on, I'm pretty sure. Keep in mind that this species eggs are A LOT bigger than anything I've seen, so maybe it takes these longer to fully develope. We'll find out huh..

Any suggestions would be great.

How are you going to incubate the eggs? Everything looks great so far. :)

Just like this:

The humidity is a lot lower don't worry. It is at 75-78% with temps from 78-82 deg.

Anytime you have water dripping off the sides like that you are nearing 100% humidity not matter what the gauges say.

Be careful with that, mold can be an issue when you are dealing with that high of a humidity and not enough air flow.
