So I bought some 1" smithis and g. pulchras yesterday and they were still in one of those tiny little plastic vials you see little slings in. I have some small deli cups I'd like to move them to, but I'm not sure on what to use as substrate. I have on hand peat moss, organic potting soil, coconut fiber (all of which I use for my dart frogs) and I could always mix them. Also, at what size should they get a water dish? And how humid should I keep their substrate? One of the smithis I bought had recently molted and looks great, but two others have gotten kind of a golden color and aren't as active. I'm hoping they're just about to molt, I just get a worried about them since they're my first T's and everything is new to me.

+1 on the coco fiber, have not had any mold issues since i discoverd how much moisture it really does hold.

Yes coco fiber, moist enough so when you squeeze water out of it it retains its shape :)

Moist coco ok for both pulchra and aphonopelma slings? At what size do you stop keeping their substrate moist?
