substarte for hissers

does anybody here use substae for there hissers and if so what sort.ive had my hissers about a year now kepping them with just comp[st sort of stuff.but i was looking the some pics and they didnt have any substrate with them so..... what best 4 the hissers???:confused: :confused: :confused: :eek: :confused: :confused: :confused:

It depends on your reason for having them. Some just sell and breed, others have them for display. I have a classroom and I do like having substrate. I use bark mulch. A thin layer. Just enough for young ones to hide in and it keeps the tank looking clean. It is also pretty easy to clean out and separate looking for nymphs.

i don't use substrate any more (too hard to maintain), at one time i did keep them in some slighty damp sphagnum moss and they were breeding like crazy.

thanks 4 the response i keep them for'show' realy its just because i like them adn there intersitng.forgot to mention i have some deaths head in there with them:confused: they like to burrow so i think i'll keep the substarte.. thanks again to everyone!!:)

I'd keep an eye on your deaths head population, I once kept hissers with a cranifer/fusca cross and the latter soon out numbered the hissers and bullied their larger cousins when it came to the hiding places and food.

what will happen if i use no substrate at all? will the roach still be able to breed and live?

i agree with no substrate is the best...and no substrate shouldnt affect the breeding or live....

lol my blaberus cranfier seem to eat more than my hissssssssers dunno bout hiding there seems to b lots of space in there (i ony got four of each type!!)
sorry about my typeing but im realy bad at typeing and spelling right!! (sorry!)
