sub-adult Chinese mantis with wing-like protrusions?

My brother's Chinese mantis is L5 or L6 we think, and he's been sending me pictures. After its last molt, he noticed what look like two pairs of tiny wings!!! Is this normal? This is the first time he/I are raising mantids.

They are called wing buds! This means your mantis is L7! Congrats!

That is a subadult. That means your praying mantis is close to adulthood.
