Stuck sand on death feigning beetles

Hello, I have a bit of a situation with my two smooth death feigning beetles. Recently, they've had sand get stuck to their back and feet (one of them in the pictures below) from the sticky juice from watermelon I've given them. I know this is true because I've seen the two of them crawl around the melon, falling over on it and such. From this, they've gotten sticky juice all over them. I know it isn't a humidity problem as the tank is kept in a dry room at 75 degrees Fahrenheit (average).

Is there a way to remove the sand without harming the beetles? They've had sand stuck on their back and feet before from the sticky juices before, and usually get it off within a day. This is the third day that both have had the sand on them. I've even seen them kicking their back legs and itching them often. I'm just worried this is irritating or stressing them out, and what I can do to potentially help them.

Spray the bejabbers out of them with the mist from a standard spray bottle. That's what I did with my Dynastes after giving them Maple syrup which they used to adhere their substrate to themselves with...& I'd rub em' down gently with my finger to get off the real stubborn stuff. They actually seemed to enjoy it.
