That is NOT a dune scorpion, that appears to be a Centruroides sculpturatus, they're medically significant.

Smeringurus mesaensis (dune scorp) on left, Centruroides sculpturatus (az bark scorp) on right. You can tell generally because the C sculp is more orange, while dune scorps are either uniformly pale yellow or if they are orange, the orange only appears on their extremities, I don't have a good picture of that color form tho. More specifically, the front of the prosoma in the Smeringurus is straight, while in the Centruroides will be V shaped or notched. The Centruroides also has narrower chela (the "hand" of the pincers). I can't really see specifically what white stuff you're talking about, could be dried poop also. Would need a better picture for that.

I suppose it's a good thing you took a pic and posted on these forums. It is always a good plan to ensure your species is confidently ID'd. If it is indeed C sculpturatus get a vertically positioned piece of cork bark in the enclosure, making sure that there is still 0 chance of escape. @MorbidArachnid truly, is well versed in the ways of the scorp, Ty for sharing 🙏.

As for the white stuff, probably poop. Most mycosis on scorpions appears as dark or black patches. Keep an eye on it to be sure, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Yea that's an AZ bark scorpion, you can see the notch on the front here.

Compare it to how straight that looks on my dune scorpion picture, and also how thin the pedipalps are compared to the dune scorp.
