I recently got a baby male Python Regius from a trusted breeder. I can see him breathe. Is this normal? Does he have a disease?
Contact the breeder??

Yes- are you ALWAYS able to see his body walls expand and contract?

I can see mine breathe, but not every second.

If you're talking about open-mouth breathing. it could have a respiratory infection, common in pythons. It is treatable with prescription meds from the vet

Be more specific when you say you can see him breathing.

Okay, if it's not open-mouth breathing/ no bubbles from nose, it's likely not an infection. With baby snakes, the contractions of their breathing can sometimes be more evident than with juvenile/adult snakes. As long as the breathing does not seem labored and snake is still slithering around, drinking water, etc, I wouldn't worry

It's not open mouth, but I can see contractions.
Normal from your basic description. In the future be specific about your post. As you can see your post was not sufficient for us to know what might be going on. We can’t see it nor read minds

Do your snake a HUGE favor, head over to the ballpython forum - just google can’t miss it. Best site out there- your snake’s life depends on your level of interest in reading about it.

Well said.

As for respirations, what is the body temperature of the animal? Respirations, heart rate, metabolism etc can vary widely with temperature.

BTW, I gave the snake farm an old machinists dial gauge a while ago. https://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/6/3/63521_W1.jpg It's just a solid base, an arm and the gauge, A couple of the keepers there got interested and often use it. Just place it near the snake with the probe just touching the body of the snake. It gives the movement of the body a visual indication, able to pick up both respirations and heartbeat. It's pretty amazing the differences in body temperature and comparing different snakes. Warmed up kaouthai out for breakfast can be quite fast, on out to the antique Old Man python that can take minutes between gauge movements.
