Here she is and I will go ahead and post some pics of the Monster 64" female Canebrake. She just shed yesterday and looks great, I can fit my arm into her shed. Too bad my camera is terrible though haha, no seriously it sucks!

Just watch your "p's" and "q's" there with that Canebrake; they are considered "Threatened" in the state of VA and it is illegal to possess them without a permit, even though you can keep a Timber Rattler. Go figure.
It's a beautiful snake nonetheless; I've caught Canebrakes right here in my back yard that were pushing Boa Constrictor size and I've no doubt that I could have fit my arm inside a shed skin of some of these! I had one actually bend a field hook, she was so heavy! They tend to be really pink with bright yellow heads around here, very attractive snakes, and usually the adults seem really laid-back, but the babies are quick to rattle and strike.

Shes a big baby! Yeah I realised that after I moved up here, no choice at the time though but I am getting out of the military in 6 months and will be heading back to the REAL south. My wife and I are moving to Charleston right around December or January. I love it there

I like the little beasts! Down in Georgia our dekays are a lighter tan coloration with pairs of small dots running down either side of the spine. So I was very surprised when a friend of mine brought this little girl up to me and saw her for the first time. The patterning is definately not what I was used to seeing in Brown snakes!

You won't be that far from me, then; I'm only about two hours from Charleston, or as we call it down here in SC, "The Holy City". I love Charleston myself-great food, amazing history, wonderful atmosphere, great food...it's sorta like "New Orleans lite".

Did I mention the food? Make sure you head across the Cooper River to the neighborhood of Mount Pleasant to take in some dining at Shem Creek if you're really into fresh seafood and traditional SC Low Country cooking.

There's also some awesome field herping in the Low Country, and you might even find an Eastern Diamondback or two, and be sure to check out the Edisto Island Serpentarium and say "hello" to my old friends Heyward and Ted Clamp. SC still has the most relaxed laws when it comes to keeping venomous or exotic herps, although I'm sure that the sad day will eventually come when the AR people take over our state, too, as they have in so many other places. Right now, it's the most herp-friendly state in the South.
