wow, that's pretty sad, considering males aren't in high demand or anything... Whoever took that snake probably could have gotten one for cheap, and saved themselves all that trouble... I mean, Dumpling, the albino burm that was in last year's super bowl commercial, recently sold for $300 or so, and that was high, considering his "celebrity" status...
I hope Merlin returns home safe and sound, and nobody gets hurt in the process.

That sucks, people can be so dumb sometimes. To the "how could anyone not notice," again, people can be dumb. I rescued a 6ft albino burm from a pet store where they lost it. It got out and they couldn't find it for over three months. Seriously, a 6 ft, bright white and yellow snake, and they couldn't find it. When they did, it was covered in mites and wounds. I think that they were missing a few rats, too, but they wouldn't admit it. Because it was in such bad shape, they let me have it for $50. I really hope they find that stolen one. I know I would be really upset if someone stole mine.

Merlin is back home!!!

Someone left a red bag at the gate to the zoo and he was in it, cold, hungry and onery as ever.
I'm betting that whoever stole him figured out that they bit off more than they could chew. Sure hope the zoo beefs up their security.

well in the human's defense, snakes ARE really good at hiding. they seem to know when people are going out set on finding a certain species ;P

Wow! Like other people said, that's a lot of effort to take a heavy 12ft snake that's not even rare or valuable. I'm so glad this story had a happy ending.
Two koalas and a rare garter snake were taken from the San Francisco zoo a few years ago. Luckily they caught the people who took the koalas and the animals were returned safely. I don't think they ever found the snake though. Apparently it was endangered and there were only a few left in captivity. :(

I just read in the article that it's the second time in 10 days that the snake was stolen. A couple came in and took the snake and a giant tortoise! I don't see how you can be very sneaky doing that... They really do need some better security
