The OP humbly extends his abject apologies to all cold blooded animals, except the New Joisey governor.

I think the title should have been "Beautiful snake hugs New Jersey governor." Just sayin...

Pretty sure that's a young Ophiophagus hannah you got there, as the scale pattern matches, especially on top of the head. These can vary; some have a visible pattern, while others don't. The scale arrangement on the head is different from that of my late Indo-Chinese Rat Snake, which is a "mimic" of the King Cobra in markings and coloration.

Friend of a friend got the shot. Now I'll always wonder what a king would be hunting up on that flower. ;)

It is probably lying in ambush for another snake, like one of the arboreal Rat Snakes, to come cruising by, looking for birds or rodents.

You just made me think of what kings remind me of; those insatiably curious wasps that can't resist poking their heads into every crack and cranny they find. Unlike most snakes, kings almost never seem to kick back and relax. They are always snooping about. That isn't the largest king ever to grace the planet. That flower is only 6 inches thick or so. An itty bitty juvenile I guess.
