Found one of these beauties in my apartment closet. They are amazing hunters! The literally spit a mixture of web, glue, venom from their fangs to paralyze the prey. Once the prey is pinned down enough with the spit web, it will then start to use the web from its abdomen and then go to deliver the bite.

I created this thread because is it was a spider I had never heard of or seen before and was curious to see if anyone had heard of or seen it either.

I have mine in a 32oz. deli cup with 1/3 coco fiber and a long cork flat. They seem to be more arboreal as it hangs out on the back side of the cork bark upside down most of the time.

I threw in a roach the other day and left it and looked today and still saw the roach. Taking a close look I saw that it was a female and was now carrying an egg sac! I took the roach out and will see what happens.

Attached picture is not mine, forgot to get a shot of her with the eggsac. Will try later and post.

I had a WC Scytodes sp. that laid a sac but most of the slings didn't make it. The female died shortly after and all I have left is 1 sling which is doing well. The sac hatched last July and the sling is only about 3/16".

Cool thread ! Scytodes thoracica is the only one we have in UK. Has anybody managed to keep other species? I've read that some species in Africa and NZ display also pro-social / social behavior.

I occasionally find them in the house. Very unique looking. I haven’t tried to keep them in an enclosure just because I’d rather them out doing their job getting rid of pests!
