I dunno

I remember a while ago, a post about Poecilotheria venom and which one is more potent. I asume that this site would help thoes interested in the potency of the species. The guy that runs the website sure knows alot about venom and he has been in T.V several times. I think that people who buy venom from him, are buying for researchable stuff, like medicine and stuff like that you know?

Any ways,

have a nice day

Yeah a good analogy would be like only buying the hole of a do-nut; you're buying the 'useless' part

;)

 This doesn't look too promising "Venoms from three species of Southern Chinese tarantulas (Theraphosidae) are now. Ornithoctonus huwena is locally known as the 'Earth Tiger" or "Cow Killer" and has a venom that can be lethal to humans. "

Hmmm. "lethal to humans"? In what concentration? In the wrong format, that data can get pretty sensationalist. . . such as on a dealer's list that likes to cry out "HOT!" to sell spetacular things, or in the eyes of a public that wouldn't want something like a creepy large spider around. I wish some were more responsible about stuff like that. refer to the rknralf thread about getting a pokie.

Anyway, they sell the venom for research. Great stuff can be made from many animals' fluids. There's a drug made for heart problems from G. rosea venom. Research is being done on Hysterocrates venom in hopes of making a drug to treat brain troubles, etc. Labs like to buy venoms, molds, bacteria, shark guts, etc. to see what receptors they affect, how they do so, what they block, what blocks them, etc. When some components are found that have a desirable reaction, they can be used, maybe even synthesized, and voila, a new medicine.
I think some guy playing with bread mold did something along those lines some time ago. . . .
I don't know if anyone in the scientific/medical community seriously would devote much time to see if certain theraphosids have venom that can put a "zinger" on a person or cause death. There's simply no big need, given that no one has had a medically documented significant, life-threatening reaction to a tarantula bite. I think the studies done by those that buy from spiderpharm may be less spectacular than seeing what tarantula bites hurt more than others, but much more beneficial in the long run.
