We found this guy this evening attempting to make a giant web in our kitchen! We think he may be a juvenile garden cross spider.

Any ideas? We let him go after his photoshoot

location is always helpful if not necessary for id! i checked your profile and see georgia so i assume thats where its from!
it does resemble a cross spider but i do believe this is a juvenile Neoscona crucifera!

Ah yes! Sorry about that! Yes, I do live in Georgia!

That ID makes sense! We have a lot of orb weavers around here, although I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a juvenile one! We don’t usually see the adults until the fall.

The web line he had started was super strong and very very long! It went from the ceiling down to the trash can and even after my husband ran into it, was still intact! We hated to pull it down but we didn’t want a giant spider web in our kitchen
