No, not a brown recluse. You really need to search Google for images of Loxosceles reclusa (Brown Recluse) to know what they look like. They have a very distinct look.

I just looked at the location on your profile of Hollister, CA and the brown recluse, Loxosceles reclusa, doesn't even occur in your area. The closest is Loxosceles deserta, the desert recluse, but they are very rare to non existant around human habitation. Your friend does not know what he is talking about so you can just shrug him off from now on.

Thank you for clearing that up!

Agelenopsis sp I would guess.
Fits the typical agelenopsis markings. Two cleanly delineated parallel lines on the ceplalothorax with little to no curvature and do not meet at/near the abdomen..

It's funny what the average person thinks a recluse is, there needs to be some mainstream education on the matter.

Wolf spiders don’t make webs.
i did say it looks like one lol but they also tend to be a bit on the larger size aswell this could be a
Schizocosa mccooki but they too are not prolific webbers and if it were a wolf spider they do tend to hunt other spiders.

It's agelenidae.
