at least a week ago, i found myself scratching at the back of my thigh and noticed i had a bite there. i think it happened in my sleep because i got it when i wasnt spending any time outdoors due to the never-ending rainy crappiness we've been having here in Connecticut.

so 7-10 days later the bite is still there....it is now purple and amoeba shaped...not necessarily swollen but stings and gets super itchy when i touch it. i dont think this is an insect bite. is anyone here an expert on venomous species in Connecticut and could give me an idea of what this is? i'm not expecting my leg to rot off (i know we dont have recluses here) but should i be concerned at this point?

I believe that you do have Yellow Sac Spiders there, and they have been known to cause reactions similar to what you have described. Still, though, there are quite a few other things that can cause this, too, completely non-arachnid-related. I had a similar thing happen to me about three years ago, and wound up having to have the thing opened. There was a foreign body inside-a tiny "glochid", which is one of those little irritating tiny spines from a cactus.
