That does look like Hadrurus arizonensis based off size and colour. Be careful with it a scorpion is a scorpion is a scorpion.

Now my next question, am I correct that it's a female? I am being careful with it. We might keep her but first we need a bigger enclosure.

Sorry in advance for the text wall. General body shape and proportions look like it's probably female. I can't get a good look at the pectines, those weird comb looking things on her ventral side. Males have between 32-37 pectinal teeth per pectine while females have between 24-31 teeth per pectine. While critter keepers don't work well for tarantulas, they work great for scorps. Scorpions can't climb smooth surfaces very well, which makes housing options far less limited. Water dish isn't necessary but you can always add a bottle cap dish if you want, something smaller than the scorp so it won't drown.

Care is simple. Make sure it has hides as well as a vertical climbing surface so they can molt. Ideally for desert scorps, use a loamy sand or sandy clay loam for substrate. I prefer cork bark hides but if you want to set up rocks you can, just be sure that there is no chance the rock will collapse and crush your scorp. Once you rehouse, give it a few days to adjust to its new home. Then you can feed it every week or two, really whenever your scorpion seems hungry.

Saw this thread and thought it could be useful. https://arachnoboards.com/threads/desert-hairy-scorpion-care.344669/
Keep digging around arachnoboards and you'll find plenty of good info. Best of luck with your new friend and welcome to AB.

Looks like a female H. arizonensis based on body structure. You'll need sand / excavator clay for proper keeping.

Just be sure it isn't a location that is routinely sprayed with pesticides

Oh the privilege of going on a walk about and finding a scorpion. Some of you are so lucky 😇

I should start an asylum application. Not being able to find scorpions and tarantulas is a danger to my mental state. That and certain object possession laws.

you found a nice catch! What a nice opportunity. Hope you go all the way for this wild caught scorpion.

Actually my downstairs neighbor texted me saying there was a scorpion by her storage door, I'm glad she did and didn't kill it. She told me from now on she's going to text me or hubby to come get any critters lol

That is amazing! You could litteraly become your friendly neighborhood vegan parasite control. I would love to do that.

all the arborists at my work know i will nurse baby squirrels if they happen to chop down a nest. Unfortunately, i know they chopped down nests. And i know i will never be nursing a squirrel 😒

I hope you can in any measure that is manageable for you. It is even more special since you have a partner you share this with. We are supposed to be earths care takers. Yet, only few truely act upon it.

Let alone, make a difference. If everyone cared as much as you did, we would be living in a different world.

This is very true. A few months back someone hit a mourning Dove in front of my husband, he was almost crying. People don't give a crap. They purposely hit that bird and my husband watched it. So sad.

hitting animals has always been a sport. I think it is a state of mind. When i analyze everything around me, if i can avoid hitting a living being i will.

some people just have it wired into them.

they live in a different world.

and this world, is the wrong world.

Yes I agree. They view animals as objects not a living being and that makes me upset.
We need to remove ourselves from these equations.

we will only hurt ourselves more by going down that path.

it also does not have to become our reason to exist: preventing this.

we will never be able to stop everything. We can only do our best in what is in our capacity.

I never understood people who dislike animals, especially extinct ones. I like the Buddhist method of dealing with insects, people will carry brooms with them to sweep any insects from their path so that they do not step on them.

It is an interesting approach. Many of us take insects and arachnids we find indoors to the outdoors.

Speceism is a very tough subject. If you are willing to consider one lifeform, then you should consider them all.

a sprintail 🤔 vs a humpback whale.

it is challenging because everyone has different appreciation levels.

bbq pig ribs, anytime. But bbq dog ribs… why is it any different?
