what enclosures have you guys found to be the best for arboreal Ts that is still space efficient for your T shelves.

i feel like i have seen pokies in 1 gallon widemouth jars.
is that enough space for them?

5 gallon aquariums seem nice and roomy but i'm wondering if there is something space efficient that falls between these two sizes and is cheap and space efficient. and preferably something that can be ordered in bulk.

i realize that everyone has display tanks and so do i (for my spoiled Ts), but what would you use to keep the most number of female arboreals in the smallest space possible *while maintaining the comfort of the T*?????

thanks in advance

Depends on the size of the T...I use Micheals cubes for my smaller T's up to 3.5 inches or so.(Avic's and Psalmo's)Saves a LOT of room and they can live in them for quite a while,so you are not constantly rehousing.

thats cool brett... i was more or less talking about adults.

i use 50 dram for slings. and 32oz tall deli cups for juvs. but i'm looking for an efficient means of storing as many adult females, comfortably, as i can on 1 big "tank rack" and 2 sturdy bookshelves with adjustable shelves.

I would think that depending on the size of the adult, you might still be able to get by with the large Micheals cube....Might being the key word;) Ever try a 2.5 gallon set up vertically?

Depending on which adult tarantula you have.. If you want between 1 gallon & 5.5 gallon... Why dont you go with a 2.5 gallon? They seem to be small enough for shelving.. But still roomie enough for most females.. Depending on the SP. of tarantula you are putting in it..

what are the measurements of the large michaels cube?

and to answer your question. no, i have never done a vertical fish tank set-up before because i dont know how to fabricate those awesome hinged covers...

i would totally be willing to buy 5 of them in the 2.5 gallon size and 5 in the 5 gallon size if someone wants to make them for me.

lmk if anyone wants to make some lids for a small profit.

is there such a thing as 2.5 gallon widemouth jars... i know i didnt mention this but i would really like to be able to buy this type of enclosure for cheap and in bulk.

i know, i know, cheap, bulk, space efficient, and comfortable for the T.... i cant have it all but hey, you cant blame a guy for trying.

1 gallon jars work quite nice for most arboreals that don't grow to large..For the bigger species I will use vertical 5.5 gallon tanks with large cork tubes placed inside.

Heres an old pic of bunch of them setup

You can also use those cereal containers pictured on the right for arboreals to ;]
I can fit more of the jars on my shelves tho!

sounds good. thanks redneck.

does anyone else know where to get those 1 gal clear plastic widemouth jars?

i think i'll use those for adults that mature between 4"-6"(heteroscodra, psalmopoeus, stromatopelma, tapinauchenius, avicularia, some pokies etc.) and use the vertical 5 gal for the larger arboreals (lampropelma, most pokies).

i have a 5" a avic thats in a 2.5 and it seems so cramped but that may be because its horizontal and even the 1 gal vertical jug would probably be more comfortable than it is now.

i dont know. what do you guys think?

I'm not sure where to get the ones in the pictures at, but you can get the ones that hold pretzels and cheesy puffs at any grocery store, dollar stores, walgreens, etc.:)

My 4.25'' A avic looked comfortable in a 1 gallon jug.. But I didnt much like it my self.. If you turn that 2.5 gal vertical it will have ALOT more room.. That is what my 4.25'' A. avic is in now.. He has more than enough room.. I feel a 5''-6'' arboreal T would feel more than comfy in one.. Anything bigger than that I would keep in something bigger.. Just my opinion though..

yeah youre probably right.

a few 2.5 gallon tanks to nicely display some of the 6"ish adults would be a nice touch...

you know; t. latipes, t. subcaruleus, p. miranda, p. metallica, a. diveripes.... something along those lines.

(in my dreams!)

Try Googling around for some. A quick search brought up plenty of links, like this.

(I sort of laughed when I read the description: "Use this jar as an aquarium, terrarium or insect home. Plastic lid can be easily drilled for vent holes.")

I've seen cheesy poofs/pretzel jars like that, too, but I dunno how many pounds of junk food you'd need to eat to house your T's, lol.
