This is Skidmark, my cusimanse - he is a species of mongoose from western Africa. Just thought I would post a couple pics of him. They are a mostly carnivorous species, though Skidmark has a fondness for grapes. They can make decent pets if you get them young, get them fixed and carefully work with them to keep them tame. They are very social, so almost seem to crave attention. Definitely not for everyone, but I have a fondness for odd pets. :)

Most of my pets just sort of fell into their names, and I like it that way. When I have to put a lot of thought into a name it just doesn't work right. :)

Theres an exotic pet shop near me that stocks all sorts of peculiar stuff.

Wow, Ravnos, that's amazing. It looks like you're doing a very good job with him. He looks very healthy.

I remember I envied you so much on paw-talk when you used to talk about all of your pets. Some things never change :D

He doesn't get along with my cats or my dogs, so I don't let him free roam entirely, but I let him wander the room I'm in - as long as I'm within ear shot to know what he's up to. He is housebroken though, he will only go in his cage - which at the moment is a large ferret cage, but I'm in the process of building him something a little nicer out of an old countertop with plywood walls and mesh front.

He is just over a year old, and is mostly full grown. He may get a little fatter. They live about 10-12 years in captivity, and don't have much of a smell. Getting them fixed helps greatly with scent marking. Their fur is very coarse so doesn't really hold a lot of musky oils or anything. I don't consider him to be any stinkier than my dogs. :)

I'm still on Paw-Talk, just don't pipe up very often... but I read. :)

If it's carniverous, do you feed it insects? or other things? (mice?) Kind of a dumb question, I guess, but they seem kind of big for insects (unless you have a LOT of insects)

I use a ferret diet as a base and suppliment with crickets and mice. I haven't tried meal worms yet, but I bet he'd eat those too.
