I had some time to kill so I decided to breed a few spiders tonight. I also decided to snap a number of pics. I took over 70 stills and I also have a number of videos to edit now. I'll only bore you with a few of them.

C. fimbriatus:
Next time I decide to put them together I'll be sure to schedule an hour. The courtship was very short. Less than one minute. Once they locked up, they stayed like this for over 15 minutes.

B. smithi. They weren't in the mood this evening. (She has already accepted him previously).

H. lividum. The girl was a bit photo shy so she jumped back down right after.

A. seemanni Female

A. seemanni Male

P. striata. These two decided to leave her cage and climb the mirror. I'll edit the video and post it soon.

I'm still skeptical that there is a difference.

Until I can see convincing evidence to the contrary, I think there is T. apophysis, T. blondi, and a few people making a lot of money off trade names. Hopefully I'm wrong. It will be interesting to see when my cb slings molt as they are still in the 1st instar stage. The males and females came from the same import order in 2007. From what I can tell the young "burgundy" goliaths look exactly like my T. apophysis. When I asked for more pictures of the "burgundy" adults, I was referred to a page with thumbnail pictures with very little detail. I still can see how one could make an argument that an already gravid T. apophysis was imported (there have been a number coming in lately), dropped a sac, but the offspring were erroneously thought to be something else. You can easily get to this assumption since the order was supposed to be from Guyana and only contain T. blondi. On an interesting note, many of these "Guyana" orders coming in lately have had some "Brazilian" species. (E. murinus, A. fracta, etc). Since the the spiders and sometimes the trappers don't respect political borders, it is hard to say exactly where these "Guyana" spiders are coming from. You can only know they were shipped out of Guyana regardless of where they were caught. I think I just stated a few claims:

1st. T. sp. "Burgundy" may be a trade name and a way to double the price.

2nd. I could be mistaken. I'm sure we'll have a better idea once the males mature.

3rd. Guyana shipments may contain more than spiders collected in Guyana and/or some spider ranges may be much larger than we know.

I agree.
Althought It could be that T Blondi in fact can have somewhat of a lighter pinkysh tarsus too.

From all the info I got to gather, theres no reason to call it a 3rd diff specie.

Recently speaking to Mikhail F.Bagaturov ( http://tarantulas.tropica.ru/en/node/61 )
He said that with the info that he has on had, althought he didnt have the oportunity yet to study those "burgundy", theres no reason to be calling it a dif specie than T.blondi.

Wow that's awesome!! I wish the best of luck. I find it so fasinating to see breeding and I can't wait to be able to experience this myself! Do you guys ever feel like Noah's Ark with a pair of each? LOL

Nope. I typically have multiples of each species.
