Gorgeous snakes! When it said kings, I though you meant king snakes, not cobras lol.

it's not a sign of aggression, she does that everytime after feeding to adjust(reallign?not sure which is the correct term lol) her jaws.
she's a big puppy really, only seen her hood on the week i first got her.
i don't really recommend doing this and i know the risks involved, mods please delete this if it's inappropriate

Thanks a lot for the pictures.

Balls of steel!...Really!

Still though, doing this with a king is "more sane" than doing it with a kaouthia for example. Kings are very smart animals and they recognize their keepers. Amazing snakes!

Two big gripes (RANT)

First, OP, 10 out of 10 for style. Congratulations on clearly demonstrating the Steve Irwin definition of complacency. That's a loaded gun pointing right between your eyes that is known to go off by itself. There is a long LONG list of top flight animal handlers, deceased, where it did go off. I feel you owe an apology. To yourself for being complacent and the the rest of us for jeopardizing yourself and potentially depriving us of your wonderful photos and often sage advice.

Second, thanks for the couple of semi real shots. Most of those SUCK EGGS! I am fed up to the max seeing cobras in their defense postures. It's no different than sensationalist media vomit. That hood flared out is a rareity almost never seen in nature. I want to see those snakes as they really are. I want to see the not so spectaculars such as juveniles and infants just doing their thing. I also want information. Revelations. How does the female Hannah completely suppress her appetite so she won't eat the young she so carefully guards? How does Hannah manage to swim as fast as the fastest aquatic snakes? What are the mechanics? Why is it that when a krait and a Hannah face off in their natural environment the krait nearly always loses, even if it manages to kill the king?

So please, excuse my ire but could we also have some of the real deal along with the Fox news tripe?

about the handling photos, all I can say is,to each his own,if you don't like them, don't look at them.
the male has only been in captivity for a few months, and I just snapped a few shots with my phone while i had them out and was doing cage maintenance.heck, even the big female raises her head slightly when she's taken out, just that she calms down almost instantly.I wouldn't mind if someone would give me a decent camera though :sarcasm:
About the hooding photos, another member also posted some photos with baby Naja's displaying threat poses, your probably should tell him that too.
1)from what i've read, the female leaves her nest right before the eggs hatch, minimizing contact between her and the young
2)I have never seen a hannah swimming in a river so I can't comment on that
3)if you observe while a king hunts, they target the head/neck of the prey, and with the bite force they have,I think they would be able to crush the skull of the said prey item.
