There has been some interest in these guys lately on the boards, so I decided to get off my butt and share some of my pics... I am lucky enough to have an office about 100 feet from a section of woods that the white bandeds seem to like. Actually, the area is really great because you can find albineus, triton, and tenebrosus all in the same little area.

The first two pics are of a female with an egg sac that showed up a month or so ago. She was about eye level on a tree that is right next to a highly traveled boardwalk on a nature trail. She stayed in the exact same spot for over a week until she left (I assume she went to deposit the sac on some branch tip). During that time MANY people walked within inches of her and never even saw her... their camo sure does a nice job!

The next three pics are of a male that showed up in the same stand of trees this time last year. He also hung around in the same spot for a week and then moved on. He too was very confident of his camoflage and did not seem to mind the numerous photo sessions a bit.

Hi Lindsey,

yeah, the interested originated mostly from my side so i guess, so it´s really time to say:

THANKS FOR THAT PICS ! :worship:

Really great shots of that species, i hadn´t thought that they´d be camouflaged so well. I´ve to admit i needed to look twice at the last pic till i recognized the spider at the trunk.

You´re a really lucky girl in my opinion to have such beautiful spiders just around your office, i´m quite a bit jealous about that... :)

Greetings,

Stefan

Thanks so much!

Sorry it took me a while to respond...I've been sick. The camoflage is incredible isn't it? They are very confident of it. In terms of photographing spiders, these are amoung the easiest. If you don't actually touch them, they don't seem to think you see them at all!

Strange that the tenebrosus and the triton seem to be all over the place once the weather warms just the littlest bit in the spring, but I don't see the albineus until it is almost too cold for spiders :? .

What a interesting group of spiders. Great camera work , she certainly has an enormous sack and out in the open with it. Is this the norm?
