Soooo. Wondered why my B Smithi female killed the male last time. Well she matured and guess what she has hooks. I am burning up ticked off and holding back some explicits. I recently obtained a male form someone to do a 50/50 and had to call him to see what he wanted to to with him. Still waiting to hear back from him. I assumed a repeatable breeder would not sale a male as a female just to obtain a breeding pair of P Regalis who were bred. Well boy was I wrong. Now I am in possession of a male I can not use. I had the loan male in the shark tank and got her out for a bit to arrange her tank. She darted up my arm and that's when I noticed it. Hooks and swollen papals. Grrrrrrrr. Well anyone need a MM Male? I am just livid right now.

I always sex mine using a microscope. I don't trust the eyeball-to-the-ventrum method.

I really should have double checked but the guy had a lot of good reviews been around awhile and "guaranteed" he was a female. I am panicy right now waiting on the loan males dad to get a hold of me so I can get him back or see what he wants to do. I feel so bad and have to right this with him. :( I have to send my molts out. I have tried the ventral thing and just can't get the hang of it and don't own a scope. I knew I should have sent that molt to kelly awhile back.:wall: I've always checked him over but not this time I just didn't look at his legs till tonight.

I think alot of hobbyists have been burned at one time or another, I have. However I lucked out and was able to loan out the MM and got half a sac in return.

Hopefully he/she makes good on the 'Guarantee'.

Doubt it. There are two possibilities and it was a year ago when I got him.

Someone did contact me and is going to sit tight till I talk to him first and see what he wants to do with his male.

I will prob just sell mine. Someone on hold for that too.:(

Don't feel bad. Its happened to me even from reputable people I found right here on the forum.

One of the sellers is going to send me a new one next time I order and I still get to keep the male. In this case it payed to be a repeat customer because it had been well over a year since I had ordered the T. from them. Because of this they are going to take care of me.

I think it boils down to how far different breeders and sellers take the sexing process. If they rely more on ventral sexing as oppossed to a microscope or molt then they are going to make more mistakes.

Yeah I am starting to calm down now. Mainly the shock factor. I just hate that people say guaranteed and it's not. Just glad no one bought the female I had up. I had an offer but I put it on hold. I take back every she is pretty and say he is handsome.

This happened to me before, with a G. rosea RCF...
And I noticed it a few days after the maturity molt also... Couldn't believe it..

I was saddened also because it was a wow-awesome specimen, who's expected time with me was now cut short (according to my expectations)...

As previously mentioned though, reputable breeders/sellers will be responsible should you bring it up and should replace him or ask how they can right the wrong...

This is what happened with me, and let me tell you-

My guy has now been bred with 7+ females all over the United States and the replacement tarantula I got (which I let the breeder choose), was well worth 3x what the RCF male was...
Needless to say everything worked out well...

So smile :) oooooooohhh-Saaaaaahh

:D

Best of luck!

This is a great way of looking at it. These things always seem to work out.

Yeah thanks to all the people that PM'ed me I have calmed down. I have relaxed a bit and saw it as maybe it was an intentional mistake to gain a bred pair of Mature Regalis but perhaps it was simply an accident of they may have bought it as guaranteed and sold the same way just as I never double checked maybe they didn't. I am going to put him out on loan as soon as the loaned males owner goes down his list first. Lesson learned I will have them double checked.

Yea, I bought a femalee C.fasciatum from a very popular. It molted into a mature male a month or so later, so they let me pick free Ts from their list that added up to the amount I paid.

I feel your pain ,this is one of the reasons why I am purchasing a great number of slings and juvi Ts I am in know hurry to just breed my Ts for the sake of breeding , I am a hobbyist first ,I am in know hurry ,I plan on doing this the rest of my life,I try to do as much reasearch as I can before I make a purchase from someone, well goodluck to you in the future dont let it give you a bad taste about the hobby ,its happens in all animal hobbys believe me I know.

You should consider taking legal action. Find out what the statute of limitations is on a guarantee, since you just found out because its now mature you should be well within those. The reason your case would be legit is 1) There was a guarantee 2) You've suffered calculable financial damages due to the faulty claim i.e. the dead male, the shipping and breeding costs that you're out because of the false guarantee. There is no reason you should have to swallow all of these costs because of a false guarantee. Explain the situation to the breeder and the damages you've incurred and see if you can come up with a deal that makes you feel better, if the fraud was intentional and provable you could get 3 times the amount of the fraud in court. But if you can't prove it then there is really no use in speculating unless you like being infuriated.

Prob is locating who got those Regalis :? There are possibilities since I do business with very few people but since I am not 100% sure I can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt who the seller was. It was simply a trade gone wrong. I've had tons of slings I've raised tons of T's and scorpions. The decision to breed was more recent decision to learn something new and raise some more slings up. I wasn't ready to pull a Regalis sac and care for slings so I traded them for a B Smithi. I really didn't lose anything. Ok maybe the cost of shipping the loan male but it happens. Plus the males owner was understanding and someone I would gladly do business with anytime. I haven't released his name yet because he has a list he needs to go through already for him. I will give him a good review though for such great communication and extremely great shipping.
