Hello all, I have recently received three juvenile Social Huntsmen (Delena cancerides) and they are all refusing to eat any crickets that I offer to them. I have temporarily placed them into containers with coco peat as substrate. I have now had them for 5 days, and am starting to become concerned. I have tried feeding using tongs and dropping prey directly into the enclosure. Any help is appreciated!

Your huntsmen is still probably getting used to its new home. Check the husbandry requirements for this exact species.

Do you have any photos of the setup? I encounter this species pretty much weekly throughout Gippsland and they have always struck me as the adaptable type seeing how well they thrive in urban environments. I have not kept them before but I'd be surprised if they would take that long to adjust to a new setup

All of them are living in similar enclosures to the image attached. Is it too small for them? Also, the substrate is a mix of coco peat and sphagnum moss. 37020C3D-1B36-444F-88F7-598353767F57.jpeg

Hi!
This species naturally inhabits really thin spaces between the bark and the trunk of dead trees. I would recommend putting flat pieces of bark/plastic close to the sides of the enclosure in order to replicate this and make them feel more secure. You may be able to witness some more interesting behavior this way, and they will probably be more willing to eat more often once they feel more secure.
