so we got a new little rat to be a buddy for our rat that we've had a couple years...

and our sweet innocent pinky turned into a stone cold killer as soon as we introduced the new rat to her...i think she lasted all of 15 seconds....i was so pissed off i'd never see pinky show any sort of aggression before, let alone expect her to go on a murderous rampage :?

yeah we have had a rat for quite a while and we decided that since they are social animals and they live longer if they have a buddy that we should get our rat (pinky) a buddy to live with. well we got a young rat, thinking that way that the rat we'd buy wouldn't attack pinky...well pinky sniffed it and then rolled it up into a ball and bit it's neck and all over it. we couldn't get it seperated in time and the young rat died a few minutes later. i was so pissed haha, it totally ruined my afternoon....ah well

we're going to try again, but this time we'll do things differently so hopefully they'll be used to eachother by time we introduce them to one another

That blows. I have never heard of that... but I guess if one has been isolated for so long. I had to female rats for a long time when I was like 13-16... I couldnt get males cause the idea of their big ol nuts dragging on me was to gross. But I loved my lil lady friends... very sweet they was.

First rat i ever made a pet of was a doe called "backie" first and last time iv got a rat to learn its name too, buck's i find are better pets tho less nippy

i've had a colony of rats at one point for a few days before i got rid of it and now have a colony of about 20 mini dwarf hamsters that i breed to scent my dead mice to entice my ball pythons who aren't eating to eat.. anyways to go on with the story, i've seen rats fight MANY MANY times.. they are vicious.. especially the males and gravid females... i've had mice cannabalize one another in the past which was disgusting.. and now, in my colony of hamsters, i caught 2 hamsters eating another one and it was moostly gone by the time i caught this...

we looked it up on the internet afterwards and there was a whole ton of differnt stuff you were supposed to do before introducing the rats to eachother...i just never bothered to check b/c our rat is so sweet and friendly i couldn't imagine her being mean to anything, guess i was wrong :8o
