My buddy just dropped his kids ex leo off to me and expects me to want it and take care of it cause "you got snakes" . . .

I know they like it dry, and feed them crix(roaches as it were).
Ill get a pic of it and the enclosure.

Tips, thoughts, advice . . .

I do not own any but I did lots of research when I did want one.

They need ~90F hotspot, with about 83ish "cool side". This also needs to be provided by a heatmat because they need belly heat to properly digest. They also require a hide in the hot side, cool side, and the middle. Need a shed box, 20gal min per adult, don't keep two males together, bla bla bla. Don't take my word for it, go here:

I really hate that my buddy dumped this thing on me, everything I have is focused more on tropical.
I dont wanna run 2 heaters, dont wanna make sure its got a gradient, blah blah, blah.

Its not staying long . . .

You have pacman frogs, you know... ;)

All joking (perhaps) aside, I don't think it should be too difficult to find an adopter. They're a fairly popular species; even with a positively gruelling adoption application I was able to place my fosters very quickly. Just make some postings on reptile forums, petfinder, CL, etc.

Yep, for a common reptile, their requirements are pretty high priced.

Are you suggesting that I feed my buddies kids first pet lizard to one of my fatties???

. . . First thing I suggested to him, but he said his wife and the kid would flip.
Imma bring it to a SFBATS meeting this weekend and see if anyone wants it.
I can do alot of things, but I dont think I could really feed this cute gecko to my frogs.

Thatll be a last resort. ;)

Leos dont lick their eyes!! They are one of the geckos with eyelids.

I raised/bred them for a while. Never did have belly heat. Just a heat source on one side of the enclosure that was 90/92. They dont need lights or anything like that either.
They are painfully easy to take care of. Just dust their food with vitamin/calcium like you do your froggies, fresh water and they are set. I provided mine with a moist hide. Just a butter tub with a hole in the side and some wet papertowel inside.

This is probably the easiest of ALL reptiles to take care of. I had them breeding without any heat mat, heat lamp, or junk like that. Keep them between 76 and 86 somehow, and they will be fine. I keep them in plastic bins with paper towel on the bottom, a water dish, and a plastic flower-pot saucer with a hole cut in the side for a cave to hide in. They eat roaches and sometimes crickets. When I want eggs from the female I put in a tupperware full of wet sphagnum moss with a hole cut in the side....she goes in and a couple of eggs are left for me. Easy Breezy. A monkey could rear these things... ;)

Leos are great. I love mine. I keep him in a 15-gallon aquarium on dry paper towels with a water dish (an ashtray with dechlorinated water in it), a "humid hide box" and a stone cave that he boths hides and basks on. For heat All I have is a single, adjustable heat lamp with a 75W infrared bulb. Temps are 85+ degrees during the day, and room temp (usually the low 70s) on the cooler end and at night. Feeding takes place every other day, and includes small roaches and mealworms dusted with Repti-Vite w/o D3 at every other feeding.

He does perfectly fine with all of this.

Yeah, Im just not set up for this guy.
Its cool and all, very unique-looking, but I got other things going, and I need to get rid of it before I actually want it and end up with like 50 of them . . .
:embarrassed:

It does like the dubias, it was always fed crix and kingworms.
Im gonna put some damp papertowels in the burrow area of the setup.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
