What is the best way to skin a snake?
What is the easiest way to get rid of all of that muscle tissue?

Cut all the way around the neck, slit down the belly, peel the skin off the body. To remove the excess tissue left on the skin, tack the skin to a board and then, with a sharp knife, scrape away the tissue. After that's done cover the inside of the skin with salt and let it sit like this for a few days. Be sure to put more salt on as needed. I've used this method on a couple snakes and some other animals and it worked okay.

Dare I ask why you want to skin a snake?

It is actually not that bad...kind of theraputic. I did it at work (nature center) with an adult male canebrake. I buried the carcass in a screen box and lined the hole with plastic; then just waited a few months to dig it back up. The hardest part was sorting them (adding to the confusion was the fact that he died with two mice in his belly so I had their bones to deal with as well). I wish I had a pic of the completed skeleton...it is in storage right now. Due to way I assembled it, you can move it around however you like. I've got a squirrel buried right now that I plan on articulating to pose with it on display (can't have him striking at nothing ). Here is a rather early pic of the progress.
