I got a young male BP from a person who is an up and coming breeder, she had some nice morphs, and nice snakes.
She got this burr up her bonnet to rescue BP's keep the females she liked and re-home the males...
I am not sure when, or how it happened. But I got an email from her, in response to one I sent her. (I have rescued a pair of BP's and am going to get another pair today...)
She has a respitory virus going through her racks, she has lost $4500 worth of snakes, breeders/morphs.
I know she has the space, I don't understand why she didn't create a quarantine room. She of all people who gives advice and is close to some other breeders in our state, Didn't follow procedures she touts.:embarrassed: :?

So now she is hoping to save the other snakes in her care. I am sorry for her, i wish I could help.
Even my hubby says we could create a quarantine area and we use a walk in closet for our critter room.
Sorry to rant. but man.. Don't bit off more than you can chew and be careful bringing in outside animals.

Fully agreed. I'm big into both fish and rodent keeping, and communicable diseases are rampant among them. I hear so many horror stories from ill informed or careless people who elected not to QT and lost their entire stock.
Though with rodents, sometimes even QT isn't enough. I had large number of domesticated mice released on my property. I trapped five young specimens to keep as pets since they were not apt to survive the winter and QT'd them for THREE MONTHS. I bring them into my rodent room, and suddenly have several sick rodents among my origional stock. The problem? All three mice had Sendai, but were asymptomatic as it only causes symptoms at first exposure, or if a sendai-positive animal becomes weakened by other health conditions [or such is my understanding]. Now I test every mouse that comes through my door in addition to QT because I lost two very wonderful females much too early due to this stupid virus.

Yep, quarantine has saved me a couple times over the years. That being said, I've failed to quarantine some animals at times and consider myself fortunate that nothing came of it. Granted, they were coming from what I consider "clean" collections, but that still doesn't really excuse it.

Cheers,
Dave
