Snake ID?

I saw this guy over the summer in Nova Scotia, Canada. I think its commonly called a garter snake but if anyone knows the species name thay would be great:

I think it is Thamnophis sirtalis pallidula (Allen)...

They have 5 species of snake in Nova Scotia (I think).

I just googled it in, and found a pic that resembles yours there at http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mnh/nature/snakes/img0009.jpg
Listed as "maritime garter snake". Probably just a local colour morph possibly? Real nice colours anyway, beautiful picture you have there

It was a beautiful snake, very aggressive though and was striking at me continually
