My friends and I went on a field trip last October. Our main objective was to look for scorpions in the rainforest. We saw a lot of insects, grubs, etc. Plus the 3 different speies of scorpions we collected.

I don't collect insects and I have very limited knowledge about proper identification. Anyway, I just want to share some pics. I kept one specimen, luckily it laid some ootheca and have hatched into a dozen nymphs.

This is the location where I collected the specimen. There were a lot of these mantids running on top of the rocks. They run fast!

The mom, 25mm.

The ootheca, 5mm.

Nymphs, 2mm, they look like red ants.

Hi, I don't have any idea on it's identification, I'm not an insect guy anyway, but you can count on me for spiders. So back to the topic, there are plenty of micro mantis in the Philippines and Asia, here's a few that I know.

Odontomantis - small green ones and feeds on ants, not sure though if they are also in brown/gray/matted morphs.

Nanomantis - small ones not sure though

Negromantis - no info, but i think they are brown or black based on the genus name.

Liturgusa - lichen mantis, small and fast moving, and they dont slip on lichens :D

I'll be glad if you will give me some other information regarding to it's location, and some info about the fauna that you'ved found. Proud to be Pinoy! :)
