I bought a colony of nymphs about 2.5 months ago. Many have shed and become adults and the vast majority are growing well. I have a few nymphs however that are still about 3/8" long. They have hardly grown at all. They have continual dry and wet food and temps range from high 90's down. It is normal to have a few stragglers?

No
My nymphs doubled in a month. What are you using for wet food?
What are you placing the food in, ie can the nymphs get to the food. and if they are not dying then give it time. I think it may be that they can not climb into the food dishes easly, but I can not see your see up so it is a guess.

Thanks for the reply but I don't think that's the issue. My dry food is placed on the ground in a couple of corners of the container and when I put apples etc. I quarter them and make sure that one side is on the ground so the apple is easily accessible . The container is 13"x9" so it's not that big. As I said most are growing well but there are several that are still very small. I'll probably just feed them off.

How many is 'a few'? It could be another lot of babies has been born. The average is about 20-30 but it could have been a particularly small litter.

I agree with Ecilious. :) My Blaptica dubia are now having so many new borns each day that I now have nymphs from about an inch long clear down to under 1/4 of an inch long. I think that from my origional 150 that I aquired about 6 months ago I am now approaching 2000 nymphs. That is a very rough guess on my part since they are just everywhere in my 20L aquarium.

It could be new borns that you did not notice until they got a little bit larger.

No they aren't newborns. I have many adults that have matured over the past 4-6 weeks. I have no babies yet but I've seen a few females with their egg-cases protruding and should have babies very soon. I'm not really worried about it because I have adults maturing every day. I just thought it was strange that I've had them for 2.5 months and still have several that are only 3/8"-1/2". As I said I will just feed them off so I don't start breeding some mutant slow-growing dwarf variety:eek: .
