Hey I've had a Schneider's skink for about a month now and lately its been trying to escape VERY often (wouldn't doubt it's because it's WC) and was wondering if I have the wrong setup.

It looks sub adult, 20gal long desert setup. 4-5" of sand, about 100F hot side and 80F "cool" side.

Any ideas?

According to afew care sheets on the net the hot side should be 100-85F and the cool side should be 70. Night time temps should be 70, just put the heat pad on a timer. That could be one reason for its behavior or it could just be that its a skink, they're pretty active animals. As long as its eating and drinking well I'd think it will be fine.

Yeah I've read very good care sheets (surprisingly there are good ones out there for skinks). I can't really get the cool side any cooler. As for night temps they drop to low 70s.

Well it sounds like your doing everything right. They are pretty active little animals, since its WC its probably going to take some time for it to acclimate to captive conditions. Aslong as its not rubbing its nose raw I'd bet that it will get better with time, just be patient.
