So among all the inverts I’ve wanted the sand spider had always been one I’ve wanted, although I’ve yet to see them anywhere on ksl or in any of my local exotic pet stores. My L megatheloides was the only other spider I was really into and was lucky to find it on ksl.
Are sand spiders rare in the pet trade? How much do they normally sell for?
Is there more than just one species of sand spider?

They don't come up very often here in the UK but do come up. When they do they're around £25 for a sling.

There are a lot of species of 6 eyed sand spiders. There are Sicarius sp and Hexophthalma sp. Sicarius thomisoides are 99.9% of the time the ones you find for sale. They have the less potent venom compared to say Hexophthalma hahni.

Fantastic little spiders to own (I have 3) and will be well worth the wait.

Okay :D what’re the main differences in the species aside from the venom?

The last expo I was at in November of last year had them. Some guy imported some adults and had a lot for sale, but the prices were at $125-$150 each. I never got the name of the vendor, but that means that there are some in the US.

To be honest I don't know but I'd imagine they all look similar and behave similar.

I've kept them for years and it never gets old watching them erupt from the sand to snag their prey. And seeing them burrow is so comical.

What does your collection look like? Heading face first into a very dangerous spider is a hell of a stepping stone. One that can easily inflict loxoscelism easier than a Loxosceles Reclusa.

You are bueno then. Your first stop should be the classifieds here. More reliable than Amazon. If you really want them then you can set an RSS alert when a breeder drops them. Just keep in mind, everyone that wants them knows this is a gold mine spot and you'll be competing with a few hundred other people. The other markets are pretty much throwing dice at a wall and hoping for snake eyes.

Just remember they need caution and respect. They're fast and have a really nasty bite

Welcome to rants with yours truly,

Hey man. My lineage is as white as mayonnaise. I deploy my Español sparingly. You would get creeped out if I spoke Spanish well to you.

Does anyone know who in the USA has them available?
I'm gonna be honest. I only know of a couple people in the entire country who have them, and I only know one personally. They are occasionally available but I would be EXTREMELY careful about who you buy from, as this is a species occasionally trafficked, more so recently. And to echo everyone else, don't mess around with it. Ever.

I have a S. thomisoides and she's probably the most fun to watch when she ambushes prey. They live quite long and very low maintenance... just be careful of their speed
