I recently acquired 2 silverfish (from McDonald's...we have an infestation.) and I would like to start a colony.

I have them on a bedding of oats, some cut up straws for hides and some shredded newspaper for a different kind of feed/hide.
I am planning on tossing in a peice of apple or carrot to keep them hydrated. Will they reproduce like that?

Does anyone else keep them as feeders?

My friend has kept tropical Zygentoma species as feeders for his mantids.
I can only tell you that they need humid substrate and eat almost any kind of organic matter. They need highier temperatures (depending on species) mostly 25 - 32 C.
