Re-establishing my colonies after they were overwhelmed and destroyed by phoretic mites. After finally finding a few recently eclosed adults I decided to try again. These are really entertaining and fun to watch, definitely one of my favorite Coleopteran groups to keep
I'm found a few Necrophila americana and a single Oiceoptoma noveboracense. It's getting a little late in the season to find any Oiceoptoma, so I may have to wait until next spring before I can find more. As for the N. americana, these are the northern ones that only have one generation a year. No matter how many times they copulate, all eggs laid by these late season adults fail to hatch until the adults are given a diapause in my experience. They're all doing well on a diet of thawed pinky mice, unseasoned boiled chicken and the occasional small fruit slices (apple, grape) all of which they go through pretty quickly.
