Lelle, I signed awhile ago. I know I told you the news about the Sweetwater round up, but I dont know if anyone else knows.
The man that ran Sweetwater died last year or the year before that. The roundup wasnt help last year because of that. Its also not going to be held this year. Farther into the future is unsure, because it was a profitable event. But at least the rattlesnakes were given two years of freedom.

signed. It is a pretty unnessecary event. Also if I remember from a tv special I saw years past, it also is the cause of many preventable snakebites. And that would in a small way take needed antivenin away from patients who need it for a real reason.

Bad News. The roundup will take place again this year. In the past they have rounded up 9,000lbs of meat. Im so disgusted that this takes place in my own state, and in my area. The owners of the roundup are also claiming that they are invaluable to rattlesnake research. But since those 9,000lbs of meat arent released, how is that again?
I will be there this year as one of the protestors. If anyone else in Texas wants to join me let me know. It will be taking place on March 9th.

Signed, I feel it is a senseless waste, for there is so much that these animals do for the environment. I also heard that they take rattlesnakes of all species indiscriminately in Texas for sure and probably in NM as well. Living here in AZ is kind of like a vacation for me. I have never seen so many different species of snakes here. It is heartbreaking to see them dump all of the rattlesnakes that were crammed into boxes and cans into those pits. thanks for posting that link.

well i am really upset that this is going on but remember some people fight roosters and dogs and they do canned hunts and kill whales and everything they can get their hands on i am not a tree hugger but i figure that the scientific community can obtain the anti-venom with out killing the snakes they are there for a reason they are part of the ecology of the area i do not have to remind people act with little regard to what is moral or ethical In this world there are two kinds of people evil and good and i think these people that do this are just evil. i do leather work and i see the hides of the different types of snakes that are killed for those people in poor countries where they capture and sell these items to help sustain a family i think is a more reasonale way of doing these things. these people that are doing the snake roundup do not just live off the procedes of this mess they do it only for the fun of it and the extra monies they make. i wonder do they collect the venom before they kill them or what. if they do not then its just not right.
sorry if i stepped on some toes but i am not happy with the way people handle wildlife of any kind with little regard to what harm they are doing.

I signed it. Thanks for posting this Lelle. It is just as bad as clubbing baby seals, shark finning and whale hunting and all the other senseless killing.
