Yesterday I got in a big Chile shipment and I was very happy to see two species of Sicarius included. I already sent off all the S. terrosus (took a few not so great photos), but I still had a few of an unknown species to take some photos of in a more natural setting.
These guys are my new favorite true spiders. The speed in which they bury themselves is amazing. I'll see if I can get some photos or video showing the process, pretty much they use their front legs to dig a hole, place their body in it, and cover themselves up.
Luckily they guys have fixed fangs so a successful bite should to be difficult, otherwise I'm sure many more people would have serious issues with this deadly genus in it's native range.
Enjoy the pics!
