So far in my Remulopygus brevispinus millipede enclosure, there was a sphagnum moss lying on the surface. But recently I started to wonder - that maybe I should mix it with the substrate, to let him burrow more easily? What do You think?
I usually mix the sphagnum moss into the substrate as it is more effective that way (i.e, helps keep the substrate airy and absorbs excess moisture). On the surface with its high surface volume I'd expect it would just absorb the water that is added to enclosure and allow it to evaporate quicker.
I don't see any rotting leaves or wood in your enclosure; is there any under the moss and bark or...?
Ah, good. That's another reason you may want to mix the moss in, it makes it easier to see when the substrate has become deplenished and should be replaced.
