Hi, I have never had a scorpion and since my mom won't let me get My P. murinus I will just get a C. cyaneopubescens (spelled right?). Any ways, swifts inverts doesn't have any freebies I like so I might not get a freebie and instead get my first scorpion, are these good beginner scorpions? they have a 1-2 inch adult that is wild caught, should I buy it? I like how they aren't super large and look evil and interesting and also that they aren't dangerous (or so I've heard). So are these easy? Can they stay at 71 degrees or do I need a heat light? I have heard these don't need a water dish as they get there moisture from there food, is this true?

Whether you should buy one or not is up to you...

More heat then 71 degrees. Mid 80's or so. No water dish needed.

Great hardy scorpion. But keep the temps up a little higher.

Ken the Bug Guy has baby S. mesaensis' and Pterinochilis murinis' (excuse my spelling as I don't have interest in tarantulas). The babies would last longer.

I keep my S. mesaensis at 90 degrees during the day, with a temp drop to room temp during the night. I have heard of peps wetting the sand like i do for my H. Spadex, i do not think it necessary for this species as i provide slate flat stones and she hides under them during the day. Mine is pretty active from the time her light goes off till about midnight to one. Pretty fun scorp to watch hunt and consume food. Last thing i will say is handling not recommended, not due to sting, but they are VERY, VERY, VERY FAST, you will have a pretty hard time catching them in a home haha!

I have mine in a 5 gallon tank, that should suffice for adult. I also have 20 2instar that i keep separate in tub-a-wares with holes punched out on the lids. For lighting i use a 60watt infrared bulb on a zilla hood. Provides heat more than light, as they cant see the redlight.

Why are you so hung up on this WC thing?
I guess he's worried about the fact that a wc might be an old animal that life not that long as an younger one.
That's always a risk in getting adult wc but that have everybody to decide for himself if you want to take the risk or not. That decision nobody can do for you because at the end its your money and your animal you get.

One doesn't often see CB S. mesaensis available, if ever. That's my point.

If the age is a worry, buy a juvenile or subadult.

Okay I will try to see if they have anything younger available but I just want to keep it as long as I can.

I have a WC S. mesaensis and really enjoy it. I keep it around 75-80 degrees and it's super active (at night). I'm not really a scorp guy, but it may just be the gateway drug...

Yes that's right. Here in Germany only wc are available. From about 15-20 mesaensis i keep or kept i only got one mesaensis from a guy from austria. I try to breed them since about 1-2 years but until now with no success. 1-2 seems to be gravid but we will see if or when they give birth.

I just thought about something, this is probably a stupid question but I think I should ask anyways. Okay, I know they need hot temps (as stated before), If I were to use a heat light as stated before, how would I heat it. It would be in a small tank with a lid. What would I do? And also could I put it in a ten gallon screen top to use a heat light? And if it was in the ten gal, could I put two in there or are thye not communal? If it was in the ten gallon, should I have more than 2 or just one? Sorry for all the questions but just had these thoughts.

Why not go for a heatpad instead of light if that’s the case. I’m sure you can probably keep them well fed and in a big (10gal) enclosure they might do well although this species isn’t know to be communal. I’ve caught them in the wild before and they all seem to be within 2 feet from each other.

P.S to all the people in here namecalling, how about we just answer the OP’s questions instead. Let’s be civil. I’m not calling out anyone in particular but this hobby can use a little more helpful people and a little less attacking. I’m worried the Scorpion keeping hobby isn’t what it used to be I think we can all help it out by being a little nicer. Jokes are fine but sometimes, especially in writing, they can misinterpreted.
