So I bought a little starter colony and they started laying oothecas like crazy but none of them hatched succesfully.
I keep them in a big tub with some substrate and egg crates. could it be the humidity? Is there a way to incubate them?

As long as they are kept warm then eggs should hatch just fine. Humidity does help a little bit, but not by a lot in my experience. Also, you can just keep the red runners on egg crates. As substrate isn't really necessary for them. Usually it can take anywhere from 28-35 days for ootheca to hatch.
