Well you really need to base it on a molt exo and the smaller the T the more difficult it is to sex.

There are sites out there that explain this a little better, like Birdspider.com which is Rick West's site and others even.

Thats what I would suggest you do is to go read about it and base it upon a molt!!!

Good Luck to you

Poecilotheria is very hard to sex by a molt, the parts are very small..
I find it MUCH easier to look att the dorsal side

Has there been any more info regarding the blue on the ventral side of the legs. I read on this board somewhere that females have it in the front and males have more of it, even on the rear. It was not conclusive when I read it and is surely not now. I'm just wondering if anyone has delved into that theory any more.....
I have a juvie that I believe to be male, and it has the blue ventral band on each of it's eight legs.....

I have to agree. I have thought that every pokie I have is a male because of the apparent lack of spermathacae, but they turned out to be female. IMO look at the dorsal stripe for a better indicator. This doesn't work for every species.

The easiest way to sex from your pics is from the colors.. the females are black on the ventral side of the abdomen and the males are like light-brownish.

Hi Bearo,

From the colors!!?? :embarrassed: ;) Well, this is only because they are both mature. If they were 3" you would have to use features other than coloration because they would both look near identical.

Cheers!

Well, the female's genital opening is usually wider and thicker than males(see how there is some "white" visible in the genital opening of the female?)

Oh ya I see...but thats not that accurate right? sometimes you might not see that on females? I mean if they are juvs at least...

Well, it is possible on some species even as slings/juvs, And it definetly helps to have both males and females to compare to!! Not 100% accurate if thats what your wondering :)
If your specimen is 7" you shouldnt have a problem ;)

Don't be so positive it's female just because that is what you bought it as, I once bought a B. auratum as a female and basically trusted the guy as knowing what he was talking about, it was kind of dark where the T counter was so I really did not check it until I got home and found it to be male, I myself seem to have very little trouble sexing terrestrials but find it much tougher when trying to sex arboreals, so I would say try to get a pic and wait for one of the more reliable people on this board confirm what it is. All the more reason for me to know how to sex them, but the person I got it from has a very good reputation and he has been keep ts forever, + he has thousands of them lol

I do trust him tho, but I still need to find out if my ornata and regalis are female...

And I agree, if they were 3" I would look at something other than the color of the ventral side of the abdomen.. but that dosent mean I would look at the epigastric furrow.. I think its easier to look at the ventral side.

lol ;P

I wonder if he meant that he would look at other features of the ventral side? If you get a chance, Bearo, some clarification would be appreciated. ;) Also if you wouldn't mind, could I ask what features other than the epigastric furrow you would inspect to sex one at 3" size?

Thanks. :)
