More then likely he should mature on this coming molt.

If he does mature after his next molt how long do you think he has?
Not if, he will.
4 months-15 months............who knows. It all depends on his living conditions. Some people have their MM's live a while after they mature, others expire pretty quick. So there is no set answer.

I guess I will enjoy him while I have him...and I trust every thing you say....another quick question If he does exspire wouldnt he be a very small Blondi...he is only 6-7"....I thought he would at least get 10" or more...I have heard males have a longer legspan with lighter body?.

They tend to get really leggy on the last molt. I had a male put on almost 2" on his maturing molt. But I have never seen a 10" male. I just had a big boy on loan, he was about 8.5"

Holy CRAP those fangs are enormous! It's already been said but 100% sure it's male. I laughed when I saw you were holding him with mittens(gloves?); a wise choice, considering I've heard that their hairs are about as pleasant as eating broken glass. :p

Not to be mouthing off here but my T. Blondi male was 17 cm then molted, so he is about 20cm or so now. That's about 8", and he's not mature yet. That should put him at 22.5 cm or so when he matures, making him about 9". I know it's individual, so perhaps Robc's T will make it another year before he matures.

I can measure his last molt tonight again, to be sure I'm not remembering it wrong

He is a very handsome boy, Rob. Yes, he looks to have one moult left, and you can count on his legs getting good and long, our males certainly did. He still has a decent sized abdomen, but not anywhere near as big as our massive wc female, hers is the size of an oversized golf ball, even our slightly smaller cb female has much more to her body than he does.
Oh, well longer legs hold the female and her fangs further away.
Best of luck with breeding him.

Just wondering what gave it away as a male. A reptile shop near me has a T. Blondi that they claim is female, but I'm iffy as to their knowledge on the subject so I'd like to know what gave it away so I can check theirs.

Thanks.

Nothing gave it away as female...it's a male.

As for the description of how you can ventrally sex it, I'll leave that to someone who knows their terms better than me.

Males will have a usually-dark patch of special sperm-web-making glands called epiandrous fusillae between the first set of book lungs (on naturally-dark-colored species, this can be hard to discern). Females do not have these glands, so that's usually a good indication. There are some tarantula species where it is REALLY difficult to tell, but from what I've seen so far, t.blondi's are about as easy as they come. Notice on his pictures that really dark triangle area? That would be the epiandrous fusillae area. Females would lack this feature.
This link here is what a female would look like ventrally:

Compare this to robc's male, and you should notice a difference. Separate both pictures into two screens if you can to compare side-by-side.
Most hobbyists will not recommend sexing tarantulas this way, because a molt is the closest you'll get to a guarantee (even then sometimes young males and females are hard to tell apart until their organs develop).
Hope this helped!
