Today I went over to my friend Trish's house and we opened some egg sacks. One of which is a Sericopelma rubronitens! :) Here are a few pictures.

We haven't taken a count yet but how many do you think there are?!

I know Philth was able to produce a sack a while back. Has anyone else made a sack as well?

i dont know any one who has actually bred them and produced a sac. Seems many of the WC females have made viable sacs.

These were CB by Trish. She got this female from David a while back... maybe a year ago? I dunno anyways these were bred and produced here. It was not a WC female that produced a viable sac.

Thats what i was guessing too.. I'm hoping for 120 or so. I was very surprised how large they were though. I bet when they molt to 2nd instar they will be 7/8th to 1" or so... :)

I know someone who produced CB slings;) .

The funny thing is I havent seen babies for sale anywhere else. Who else have you seen selling WC offspring? I should note that all my females produced infertile eggsacs this year.

Bob, I had 4 eggsacs last year that all had anywhere from 90-125 eggs in them. The second instar babies where about 1 inch, witch made feeding them a pleasure.

Later, Tom

Hey Tom,

Thank you for the info. Trish always guesses kinda low when she gets an egg sac. She was guessing that there were about 80 eggs. She didn't seem to have any problems getting her girl to produce a sac this year. Do you know what problems people run into when trying to produce a sac from this specific tarantula?

Thanks,
Bob

Congrats on the babies!!

I'm hoping for a viable sac--I bred my female, and she's getting huge. :)

Hey Bob,

It was not a WC female that produced a viable sac.

Bob
Well, not exactly true... maybe she molted in captivity, but still WC :) So, she is a "WC female that produced a viable sac". I know what you meant though Bob, just messin' with ya.;P

Also not sure whether we should be calling it sp. "rubronitens" or not?

Oh, and congrats to Trish! :)

Hi guys,

I'd just like to clarify things. Both the female and male were wild caught. I got them both last summer. They both molted in my care in late fall and and were mated in the winter. The mating was really quick and I thought there may be a good chance the eggs were duds. I was pleasantly surprised!

I'd also like to commend Bob on the great pictures he takes. He makes all my t's look like supermodels.

Captive bred and captive born are not the same thing.

I know. :?

I agree, the lack of ultimate males.

Later, Tom
yeah i was wondering if there were any males of this species lol
anyway, your add said captive born, and since i was pretty sure it was a WC female i couldnt determine if it was captive bred and born or what lol not that it matters . Just the lack of males is a PITA

He bred WC... They produced eggs that were hatched in his care. Wouldn't that be CBB "captive bred and born" just like he said in his ad. "First CB born in the US ."

Well, hopefully with this new egg sac, there will be some future males!
