I'm still undecided, Selenotholus sp. "Glenelva" or Phlogius Sarina or is there any better species for beginners. Well I obiously know that Aussie Ts are not really for beginners :wall: but I don't have a choice so which one Sarina or Glenelva I really wanna have a tarantula as a pet

I think someone already told you in another thread that there isnt much difference in which one you get as far as a good "beginner" species.
I for one have never agreed on labeling them "beginner" or "advanced". Each will require a little different requirements.
I keep a few of the Aussie Ts and based on what little I know about them you have either obligate burrower desert (Selenotypus) or obligate burrower tropical (Phlogius). Both require deep substrate only some will be desert spp while others are tropical.
Find which ever one you like the looks of the best and then do your research on proper husbandry and get it. No need to base your choice on whether or not its a "beginner" species

Yeah mate they're all basically the same difficulty level, except P. crassipes which is nastier. If you get a "Glenelva" it will be the exact same as a Sarina except it will grow slower, web less, spend it's entire time underground (I see mine twice a year at most) and it will need to be kept slightly less moist.

Go the Sarina. Faster growing, prettier (IMO), bigger, more visible... Winner. I only have a Sarina sling, but everyone who owns adult Sarinas say the above.

Another thing - Aussie T's are great, so don't be disappointed you can only own them. They are full of attitude and are quite beautiful. We're very lucky here! ...Though I would love one of those blue things.. or orange things...

Alright I'm getting Sarina
Good choice. Like Phil said, you are much more likely to see a Sarina than any species of Selenotholus. And don't be deterred by the whole beginner/advanced notion. They are not hard to look after, and, like any tarantula species, there are going to be aggressive and docile individuals.

i rekon the seletholus glenelva is cool and easy to keep. yes they do burrow alot but they will come out for excersize and abit of a stretch. i only have 1 tarantula (seletholus glenelva). the sarina will probaly grow abit faster but it dosen't matter because you get alot of joy out of them.

well like i said i only have a glenelva, and i would like a sarina. its up to you which 1 you pick. the sarina is much more beautiful colours and they can both grow around the same size (17cm). the glenelva will probaly burrow more but will come out of its burrow.i'm not too sure how long they stay in there burrows.

i prefer the look of the arid zone t's, i.e selenotypus and selenotholus. As for saying crassipes are more cranky then glenelva, glenelva are angry little buggers.

Basically, HSK, if it is an arid zone T it will burrow more and stay underground more, as in the wild this is where it is cooler and moister.

More humd T's don't really need to reside down underground for the right humidity and so tend to be seen above ground more. Like I said, my "Glenelva" is never, ever out of its burrow. Often at the very entrance and when you approach she pulls back in and goes invisible again hahaha. I don't have a Sarina to compare to but have heard they are not quite so bad.

Have ordered 2x crassipes, 1x papuanus and one "Eunice" today!
