I have bought a Selenocosmia crassipes tarantula and it's coming in a few days, I would like to ask questions to double-check a few things. 1. I bought coco peat/coco coir, is that substrate good for the species? 2 Should I put a hide in?

The substrate choice is OK, and yes: give it a hide. Bury the hide mostly, and the spider will dig out a burrow underneath.

amazing species - personally i use a mix of cocofiber, top soil, and sand to create a sturdier substrate for burrowing while still allowing for good moisture controls for maintaining optimal relative humidity

additionally, i would absolutely provide a hide - for my specimen i used flat cork bark that i have half buried into the substrate where i then dug underneath of it creating a small cave like crevice - it’s since webbed the entrance extensively, along with constructing some dirt walls and within the cave itself i noticed it created multiple tunnel entrances as well

i would also say, this is a species which you need to be fully prepared for with all your tools and catch cups at the ready when housing - they’re super fast and have potent venom and if you have any dogs/cats i would put them in a separate room the specimen couldn’t enter when doing the housing as well because bite reports indicate that the venom is lethal to both and will kill the dog/cat within 30 min of envenomation

nice choice, I have a phlogius crassipes airlie. One of my favorites out of my growing collection.

Coco fiber, peat moss, or too soil will work. Just make sure whatever it is is 100% pure and that it has no additives whatsoever!
