Just wanted to share a few pics of a spiderling identified as a WC selenobrachys philippinus from Negros Occidental, Philippines.

It's got a legspan of around 1.25 inches/ 3 cm. at present and isnt eating. Hope its just a sign of pre-molt.

Photos didnt do its color justice though. Comments would be appreciated :)

i found the thread...great Ts! actually i'm not into Ts but after reading this thread i want to have one! actually i have one before i went here in manila last dec31,2005. i actually caught it inside my shoes but its a black one. i just thought its not a tarantula but i tried to observe its behaviour, the way it walks..ahh its really a tarantula. i just thought maybe its from one of the private collectors in bacolod city that got freed. i didn't have any idea that they actually thrive in the island!! thanks for the info...

i really enjoyed here in archnopets...

@ Seigneur Veinen - pm demonick.

@marrr- not much in English. Most of the literature on it seems to be in German.

What little I got was that according to Schmidt, the genus Selenobrachys with its type species S. philippinus differs from other genera
of the subfamily Selenocosmiinae by the following combination of characters:
scopula of tarsi II - IV divided by rows of setae, scopula of tarsus I parted, third
unpaired claw present on tarsus IV, fovea procurved, ALE larger than AME,
prolateral face of chelicerae bearing no peglike setae, all legs spined, cluster of
butterknife-like stridulating setae on maxilla, overlapped basally by a thin layer of hairs.

Of course, not everyone agrees or admires Mr. Schmidt but that's a topic for another thread. There's a very nice discussion by Steve Nunn (imo the expert here on selencosmiinae)here: http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=50585&page=2&highlight=selenobrachys+philippinus

As far as i know from friends based in Negros, its pretty rarely seen and is found only in the mountainous areas of the island. Spent a lot of time trekking when I lived there but never saw one.

attitude is not as bad as most selencosminiae but like some people say, its may be not even belong to that genus. so far, it hasnt burrowed and is quite calm. not sure if its still adjusting or is in pre-molt or something.
