Ok I used the advanced search fuction.. And it kept telling me Sorry, no matches for your keywords..

I am looking to know if I should use a 10 gallon setup arboreal for a 4.25'' A avicularia..

My key words were.. ("10" "gallon" "arboreal" "setup") ect. ect.
I searched in TQ&D also searched in T Chat...

If you can point me in the right direction that would be good..

The reason I am searching is because I dont know if its going to be to big..

I planned on using about 8'' of substrate so there would only be 12'' from substrate to the top of the enclosure.. This should work right?

Sounds like an awful lot of space.. but if you have the spare tank, I'd say you could go for it :)

Yea I do have an extra 10 gal. sitting around not being used.. Thats what made me wonder if I should use it for him (A. avic) or not.. Being that its larger.. If I didnt have to have so much substrate that would be nice.. But if I place 8'' of sub. in there then t wont be AS much space.. But I still wonder if its still too much..

Agreed. Some multi-tiered decor could fill up the space well, but i wouldn't use anything flashy that would draw attention away from the inhabitant.

http://www.exoticfauna.com/arachnoculture/4/AC-i4a2-p1.html I did this with my 7.5 inch Avic.metallica. Since I had extra tanks, and room,it worked out amazingly.I am using around 2 inches of peat btw.8 sounds like overkill IMHO. No issues in the past two months since I set it up.
nice find.... i got a few 10g's kickin arround maybe ill try one out..... just gotta modify my lid..... my poec's aint quite that size but soon enough they would get to enjoy their newhome's...

I've never had a problem with people using 10 gallon aquariums, I say if you've got the room for them then go for it. They can really be nice display cases. I used to have about 15-20 of them set up, it took up much of the room, but they looked nice.:)

I say go for it! I wanted something that looked great in our apt.More of a "centerpiece" to my collection,so to speak. It was cheap to put together for the most part. I am using a sliding lid on mine. Pull a pin,and the whole screen side slides open or closed.Really easy when it comes to maintenence and watering and such.I plan on doing this to all my Avic's once they are large enough.

IMHO,8 is overkill.2-3 should be adequate. I am far from an expert, but it has been working well for me,so I feel safe giving you this advice.I am also using a waterdish on the ground, and a magnetic waterdish halfway up the enclosure. it holds humidity quite well.

Ok sounds good.. I will do a little more than 3'' but not close to 8''... Maybe 4'' just to make me feel a little safer..

Thanks! :D

No problem. Play around with it a bit,and find a happy medium. At first,I had a grade in mine. The sub was around 6 inches deep at the back, and sloped to an inch or two right in front of the door.

I can't wait to see pictures of what you're workin on hun! Squid will love it, I'm sure :)

I like the idea of graduating the substrate from back to front.

You can absolutely use a 10 gallon and honestly for our adults, that's what we prefer. However, an A. avicularia will stay smaller, so there will be a lot of empty space in the tank. We had an A. metallica in a 10 gallon with lots of plants, so it didn't look so sparse in there; but A. metallica gets bigger than A. avicularia.

My key words were.. ("10" "gallon" "arboreal" "setup") ect. ect.
I searched in TQ&D also searched in T Chat...
Using 10 gallon in your search field isn't the way to go, the search won't recognize it as one thing.(which is why it put quotes around each word) Try things like "arboreal" "enclosure", "arboreal" "tank", so on and such.

The reason I am searching is because I dont know if its going to be to big..
As long as the T builds a tube web, feeding should be easy. However, until that time, it might be hard to get the food to it. If you tong feed, that might not be a problem.

I planned on using about 8'' of substrate so there would only be 12'' from substrate to the top of the enclosure.. This should work right?
There is no need for that much substrate in an Avicularia tank. They will make no use of that substrate, but will instead stay toward the upper region of the tank. Every T is different, so yours may branch out, but our A. metallica never did.

Here(scroll down a couple pics) is our 10 gallon enclosure that we made for A. metallica. The T hooked out and has been traded, but the tank is so pretty it still sits out on display. We had toyed with the idea of putting an A. avicularia in it, just so it wasn't empty; but we decided that we didn't want a WC specimen from a pet store, so we haven't. Plus, we were worried that there would just be too much empty space with an itty bitty A. avicularia. We are going to maintain the tank until one of our baby Avicularia species grows enough to be housed in it.:D
