Hi,
I hear that its a bad idea to use steel screen door material to seperate the gravel and peat layers at the bottom of moist-scorp set-ups. I was wondering if there were any known issues with using aluminum screening?

thanks! :D

Why would you want to do that? Lets seeeeeee, I have 2 Heterometrus and 1 Pandinus tank that have had the same peat in it for 4 years or more.

Also it will rust eventually, there is plastic window screen material you can get at any hardware store.

Though I think you're now convinced you don't need it. :D

Actually I don't agree. Then again I use the plastic screen mesh myself and it is to help keep the substrate from falling into the pea gravel.

& eventually a substrate change may be required which it can most definately help with. It doesn't cost much and does not take long but it can sure save you some time and trouble in the end. I would not use a metal variant though.

I would go with Brian on this one!!!!! Why use the screen if you dont need it? When it comes time to change the subsrtate all I do is dump out the peat along with the gravel and start over fresh. The rocks get coated in slimmy crap and moss any ways!!So if you are cleaning the tank wouldn't you want everything clean. So there is no need for the screen:?

I use a screen for a couple of set-ups, for the same reason as GanjaTaz.

OK a divide is not nesasery, but if you are to usew one i recomend a satinless steal one, the stif they use to repair body work on cars. This is only to stop the scorps dragin rocks up onto the surface, any other material the scorps will easely cut through

I disagree with Brian.

My H. fulvipes digs up all the gravel. Next time I will use a plasticmesh to seperate the layers. But for no other reasons than that. I haven't experienced problems, with the peat mixing with the gravel.

The vinyl window screening would work.
The craft stores sell plastic meshing of different sizes for needlepoint. It's fairly rigid and easy to work with.
