Scratching their butts?

I noticed sometimes that my Ts "scratch their butts". At first, I thought it was pretty strange... then I realized they were rubbing their legs against the spinnerets. Exactly what does this do? Just help them mat down the floor with web? Does it help them climb at all? My albopilosum has done it twice while drinking water, maybe it helps with drinking? (Not entirely sure how they drink...)

yeah my Rosea does that as well and I find it kinda funny, I almost video-taped it scratching its behind because it just seemed random.

What you're describing sounds like it's so they can lay the web on their substrate.

I've seen my rosea lick her feet and rub her butt a couple of times. {D Grooming herself, I presume?

Grooming, yes; but also a gentle extraction of urticating hairs to lay in the webbing as an added deterant to anything bigger that could hurt them.

Your T is probably kicking hairs to her web, yes...this could be a good sign of a molt coming (added protection for intruders during this critical phase)

My first thought when reading the post was they were kicking urticating hairs...but through reading the other posts I've noticed there really isn't enough information (in my opinion) in the original post for me to say that.

So I will ask: Were these tarantulas doing this when you disturbed them, or were they just randomly doing it and you happened to be watching?

Hmm

Sounds like gromming to me. I have seen my T's dothis often. It is fun to watch. They like to keep their spinerets clean. I have never seen my T's use urticarious hiars very close to there spinerets. The spinerets are always surrounded by hairs. Bald spot that i have seen never touch the spinerets. I think they are just cleaning themselves. Anthropods/insects are very clean creatures.

I've read on this forum that spiders drool. My A.Geniculata used to rub his legs by his mouth and then on the underside of his carapax and his abdomen. I think its grooming aswell. But no , they have no tongues.

Why is everyone agreeing that they don't have tongues when it was never a literal statement in the first place??
It's obvious he was anthropomorphizing the spider's grooming to licking.
