Just wondering if someone can rate the venom levels of the below scorpion species on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the worst. Been keeping them for awhile and I want to document them via venom level for their cage cards and for selling purposes so i can give a venom rating rating along with info about their venom effects. I've done loads of research on how dangerous some of their venoms can be so some of them are a no brainer lol

1: Tityus Serrulatus
2: Tityus Stigmurus
3: Tityus Damangei
4: Tityus Smithii
5: Lychas Scutilus
6: Centruroides Gracilis
7: Hottentotta franzwerneri

Thanks!

So it's quite difficult to do this as pain is "subjective" and people respond to venoms differently. I would say based on reports:

1: Tityus Serrulatus - LEVEL 4/4.5
2: Tityus Stigmurus - LEVEL 4
3: Tityus Damangei - LEVEL 3.5
4: Tityus Smithii - LEVEL 3
5: Lychas Scutilus - LEVEL 3
6: Centruroides Gracilis - LEVEL 3
7: Hottentotta franzwerneri - LEVEL 3

Anything level 1 or 2 isn't really in the Buthidae family

This seems to be the average, some people may feel differently especially if they've been stung themselves.

Thank you! i was thinking the stigmurus and serrulatus was up there at 4/4.5 as well but really wasnt sure on the others, greatly appreciated!

You really can not rate venom levels it is better to just label them medically significant or not. Epidemiological studies do not provide a complete picture also given the fact if you are a completely healthy adult there is a high chance of experiencing mild and moderate stings from even Leiurus, Androctonus, Titus, etc. But the risk always remains of experiencing severe, potentially life-threatening envenomation and these envenomations are a time-limiting medical emergency. Delayment of medical attention is one leading causes of poor prognosis in severe envenomations besides the size, age, and health of the victim.

Or rather, let me address the problem of assigning venom levels to medically significant scorpions, what data and evidence are they relying on? What toxicology LD50 toxicity tests? Those are wholly unreliable and deceitful numbers. Epidemiological reports? These can also paint slightly different pictures between themselves especially when collected from different locales and countries.

But where is the hard data supporting their opinion between what distinguishes a level 4 from level 5 or is this simply a case of licking the finger to test for wind speed rather than wind direction? Simply guesstimates. Well the truth of the matter is if you are stung by a highly neurotoxin scorpion you are looking at a guaranteed rating anywheres between a level 3 (maybe 2) to level 5 envenomation. It may require little or no treatment for local symptoms only or it may require time-limited emergency symptomatic medical care for systemic symptoms.
